EDITORIAL: And so it starts …

Suppressing speech, even hate speech can lead our nation to a dark path.  The idea that you can suppress other perspectives because you don’t like having to think about them is just wrong.  The war on “Woke” and DEI is nothing more than an attempt to erase inconvenient history.  Problem is, you can’t have a well reasoned discussion without understanding the opposing ideals.  Ignoring the people and voices that make our country who we are diminishes what is good about America.  It is what used to make us a beacon of hope in the world.  If free speech from any group is going to be suppressed and punished…then we no longer have free speech. None of us.  We only have collusion on one side and perceived confrontation on the other.
All of this crackdown on free speech is being done amid a rush to gerrymander districts, threaten candidates and judges, eliminate vote by mail, push new voting restrictions and even flirt with suspending elections.  It seems to me that a legitimate administration would not be working so hard to silence it’s citizens.   Unless, it feared the midterms might bring a congress not in their pocket,  resulting in impeachment and removal.   I just hope this regime isn’t successful in starting a war; foreign or domestic, just to avoid accountability.
Don’t make the mistake of thinking we are not on the precipice of a radically different America.
For those of you cheering on the hate and division, be careful what you wish for.
Suppressive and authoritarian regimes usually don’t discriminate.
