Iowa Statehouse Progressive Update 3/7/17
***TUESDAY DEBATE: PHOTO ID, LOWERING WAGES & GUNS***
Thanks again for all your efforts so far stopping the Republican assault on our progressive values. With your help, some terrible Republican bills died last week, but Republicans are moving fast on the priorities of the special interests and three are scheduled for debate in the Iowa House on Tuesday!
Can you make just a few calls in the next 24 hours to stop Republicans?
Lowering Wages
Instead of raising wages, Republicans are planning to actually lower wages for 65,000 Iowans. They want to take away wage increases from working families in several communities that have already raised wages. Read a summary of the bill here.

Guns & Deadly Force
The Republican bill goes too far and puts Iowans at risk by making our state a more dangerous place to live. While it has undergone some changes since it was first introduced, House File 517 still reduces background checks, expands the use of deadly force, and even allows Iowans to have sawed off shotguns. Read a summary of the bill here.

and tell them to vote NO on HF 517
Voter Suppression
Later today, Republicans are planning to make their own voter suppression bill even worse. If their terrible plan passes, Iowans will be forced to show a photo ID to vote and college students won’t even be able to use their student ID’s to vote. Read a summary of the bill here
or the full bill here (HF 516)

Punishing Iowans Injured on the Job
Republicans introduced their bill to deny medical care and benefits to Iowans injured on the job just last week and it’s on the fast track. Their bill hits older workers who get a workplace injury especially hard, even if they’ve been a dedicated employee for 30 years. (HF 518
