First, thanks to all of you for keeping up the pressure and fighting so hard for our progressive values this session. Thousands and thousands of you have turned up at forums, made phone calls, sent emails, and visited the State Capitol. While we did not win the battle last week, we’re going to keep fighting to expose Republican lawmakers who refuse to listen to Iowans. It’s up to all of us to hold Republican lawmakers and Branstad accountable for their disgraceful actions. Here’s what’s coming up next in the Legislature and how you can help.
PS — Don’t forget to check out the link at the bottom of this email to find a forum in your neighborhood this weekend!
GOP Plans to Lower Wages
Likely the next big issue up for debate is the GOP bill to lower wages for 65,000 Iowans. It’s already been approved by the House Local Government Committee (HF 295
) and the next step will be a public hearing at the State Capitol. We requested the public hearing to force Republicans to hear from Iowans. We’ll keep you posted as soon as the hearing gets scheduled. Here’s what you can do TODAY:
- Call Republican Rep. Ken Rizer at 319-651-7316 and don’t let him lower wages for 65,000 Iowans; vote NO on HF 295!
Planned Parenthood Bill Update
The House Human Resources Committee will likely consider Senate File 2
this week, which cuts critical health care services for women and defunds Planned Parenthood. Since the bill has already been approved by the Iowa Senate, we need your help to STOP this dangerous bill from becoming law. Here’s what you can do to help TODAY:
- Call Republican Michael Bergan (Vice Chair of Human Resources) at 563-380-3974 and tell him to vote NO on Senate File 2!
